Alexia Orfanou is a member of the Laboratory Teaching Staff (EDIP) at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, specializing in the History of Education. Her research focuses on the history of Hellenism in education, with an emphasis on institutional and ideological dimensions.
She has conducted postdoctoral research at the Ionian University on the Ministry of Ecclesiastical Affairs and Public Education during the period of absolute and constitutional monarchy (1833–1862), analyzing State–Church relations through legal and administrative sources. She has participated in national and international conferences, published in Greece and abroad, and since 2012 has written and edited children’s literature that disseminates historical and cultural knowledge.
A graduate of the Department of Archives, Library Science, and Museology at the Ionian University, with postgraduate specialization in Cultural Unit Management (Hellenic Open University) and extensive administrative experience, she combines research with practical heritage promotion.
She was awarded first prize in a competition at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens for a cultural organization business plan. In 2024, she organized a photography competition promoting cultural heritage through DIAZOMA in collaboration with the Ionian University (https://diazoma.gr/deltia-typou/photo-contest/). She also translated Open a GLAM LAB (2022) (https://www.glamlabs.io/publications/open-a-glam-lab) as part of the activities of the Laboratory of Museology at the Ionian University. Additionally, she conducted a published research project on the history of the Monastery of Saint Andrew, including proposals for the promotion of this historical heritage, with a particular focus on its role in women’s education in Athens since the 16th century. Her work integrates historical scholarship, cultural project management, and public engagement, contributing actively to the promotion of educational and cultural heritage.
