The 3rd International Conference on Museum Big Data (MBD2024) was held on November 18–19, 2024, in Athens, Greece. This prestigious biennial event was co-organized by the Ionian University (Department of Archives, Library Science and Museology) and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. It serves as the leading global platform for discussing the intersection of big data, artificial intelligence, and cultural heritage.
Leadership & Academic Responsibility
The conference was led by Professor Georgios Papaioannou, who served as the Head of the Conference. As the founder of the Museum Big Data series and Director of the Museology Research Laboratory at the Ionian University, Professor Papaioannou coordinated the academic program and the international steering committee.
The organizational core was comprised of two key laboratories of the Ionian University: The Museology Research Laboratory, The Information Technologies and Digital Libraries Laboratory

The project explored how the GLAM sector (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums) can harness massive datasets for:
