Project overview
The exhibition “The First Humans in Euboia” focused on highlighting the earliest traces of human presence and prehistoric life on the island of Euboea. It was designed to emphasize the archaeological significance of the region and served as a key cultural precursor to the full operation of the new “Archaeological Museum of Chalkida ‘Arethousa“.
Key Features:
– Scientific Curation: Directed by Professor Georgios Papaioannou, the project applied contemporary museological practices to interpret prehistoric findings and present them to the general public.
– Thematic Focus: The exhibition presented evidence regarding the first settlements, tool industries, and the daily lives of Euboea’s prehistoric inhabitants, linking the artifacts to the natural environment of the era.
– Cultural Strategy: The project functioned as a developmental stepping stone for the permanent exhibition of the “Arethousa” Museum, which currently houses the history of Euboea and Skyros from prehistory to the modern era within an iconic industrial heritage building.
