Dr. Charis Avlonitou is an Archaeologist, Art Historian, and Cultural Manager. She completed her post-doctoral research (2025) at the HMU, specializing in “Smart Museums” and sustainable development. During her long-standing tenure at the Hellenic Ministry of Culture, she held leadership and coordinating positions, overseeing the design and implementation of major cultural production and retail management projects. She has served as the scientific lead for the digital documentation of the Costakis Collection (MOMus). Her research explores new and emerging technologies, aiming to bridge technological innovation with cultural essence, shaping the modern and future museum experience through the lens of sustainability.

Current projects: Post-doctoral Research (2024-2025) at Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU), focusing on the digital modernization of museums through Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies to enhance economic sustainability and social resilience. The research findings have been published in international peer-reviewed journals and presented at global and national scientific conferences (including SCI 2024, Hearth Summit 2024, and the 6th CCCI Conference), most recently at the ATMC (September 2025)
