Project overview
The eCHOing project (full title: “Recovery of cultural heritage through higher education-driven open innovation”) was a European initiative funded by Erasmus+ that ran from 2022 to 2024. Its primary goal was to revitalize the cultural heritage sector after the COVID-19 pandemic by linking Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) with Cultural Heritage Organizations (CHOs), especially smaller ones.
Core Concepts:
Open Innovation: The project utilized collaborative methods such as crowdsourcing, citizen science, and hackathons to solve challenges in the cultural sector.
– Educational Resources: It developed six online learning modules designed to train students and staff in digital skills and collaborative innovation.
– Partnership: Led by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), it included partners from Italy, Bulgaria, Estonia, and Greece (represented by Web2Learn).
Results:
The project produced over 20 pilot projects demonstrating how academic knowledge can practically support local heritage sites, culminating in a collection of best practices for sustainable cultural recovery.
