Project Overview
Located in the historic region of Filiates, Thesprotia, the Centre of Religious Tourism serves as a cutting-edge hub for cultural preservation and tourism development. This innovative space bridges the gap between the region’s profound religious heritage and its legendary tradition in traditional Greek silversmithing.
Curatorial & Museological Design
The project was led by Professor Georgios Papaioannou, a renowned Museologist specializing in the intersection of cultural heritage and digital technology. Under his scientific supervision, the center was designed to provide a “living” museum experience that moves beyond static displays.
Key Features:
– Interactive Digital Storytelling: Utilizing advanced audiovisual systems to narrate the evolution of traditional silverware in Epirus.
– Religious Heritage Mapping: A dedicated digital platform allowing visitors to explore the monasteries, Byzantine monuments, and pilgrimage routes of the Filiates region.
– Virtual Immersion: The center employs interactive kiosks and immersive technology to provide a comprehensive educational journey through the religious and artisanal history of Western Greece.
Strategic Vision
As a cornerstone for local development, the Centre aims to establish Filiates as a primary destination for Religious and Pilgrimage Tourism. By integrating modern museological standards with local craftsmanship, the facility preserves the past while providing a 21st-century platform for global visitors.
