Participation of the Museology Research Laboratory in the 1st Summer School “Souli – Acheron: History, Environment and Sustainable Development”

The Museology Research Laboratory of Ionian University participated in the 1st Summer School “Souli – Acheron: History, Environment and Sustainable Development”, which was held at the Voulgari Historical Museum in Thesprotia.

As part of the Summer School, the Laboratory was represented by Rania Peponi, who participated as a speaker with a presentation entitled “Museum Education in Practice: From the Museum to the Learning Experience.”

The presentation focused on the educational potential of museums and on ways in which museum spaces and collections can support meaningful learning experiences. Particular emphasis was placed on the role of museum education in connecting learners with cultural heritage through active participation, exploration and interpretation.

The presentation was followed by an experiential workshop for participating educators. Through practical activities and discussion, the workshop explored how the museum can move beyond its role as a place of visitation and become a dynamic learning environment that encourages discovery, collaboration and engagement with cultural heritage.

The Summer School was organised by the Municipality of Souli, the Lifelong Learning Centre (KEDIVIM) of the University of Ioannina, Ionian University, the Regional Directorate of Education of Epirus and the Environmental Education Centre (KEPEA) of Filiates.

The Museology Research Laboratory warmly acknowledges the organisers for the invitation and hospitality, as well as all participating educators for their active contribution and the constructive exchange of ideas throughout the event
