Collaboration with the University of West Attica on the Documentation of the Stone Bridges of Pogoni
The Museology Research Laboratory of Ionian University has been involved in an interdisciplinary collaboration with the University of West Attica focusing on the documentation, interpretation and promotion of the stone bridges of Pogoni, Epirus.
The collaboration was developed through the SCANNER Workshop – For Documentation and Promotion of Stone Bridges of Greece: The Case of Pogoni, organised by the University of West Attica and the Municipality of Pogoni, with the participation of Ionian University and other academic and research institutions.
The Summer School brought together students and researchers from different disciplines and countries, combining advanced digital documentation techniques with approaches to cultural heritage interpretation. The documentation activities included the use of laser scanning, UAV-based surveying and photogrammetry, while the interdisciplinary work also explored ways of communicating and interpreting the heritage values of the bridges.
The Museology Research Laboratory contributed its expertise in museology and cultural heritage interpretation, highlighting the importance of connecting digital documentation with the interpretation, storytelling and future presentation of heritage sites.
The collaboration has also opened further perspectives for research on the stone bridges and wider cultural heritage of the broader Pogoni and cross-border region, including the heritage landscape extending towards present-day southern Albania.
